There was always something really off about the new age.
Lets be real : All the new age books that started pouring in to the collective in my early twenties, always reeked of avoidance and delusion... It was never practical advice about how to live or to build a life... but more about magic and manifestation... self help turned self indulgence... becoming detached rather than invested...
Realisticly they played on the vulnerabilities of a lost generation... Without God as a foundation, we were open to anything and everything. Without a real moral standpoint, we were so easily manipulated.
I mean some may have been lucky enough to have still remenants of a hard fought Christian country, with stable parents and viewpoints passed down... But many didn't. Trauma had already infiltrated the family, values and stability lost... Growing up in foster homes or with broken families one way or another.
Of course we would latch on to these spiritual concepts when we had a spiritual void gagging to be filled.
Of course buddhism, hinduism and so on would become alluring.. with all these mystical concepts, how to destroy our ugly egos... How to become one with everything. How to move beyond the suffering.
And then later - the indigenous with their medicines and their ceremonies... It all seemed so much healthier and rich than the bleak atheist broken places we had come from that drove us into drugs and the search for something better.
I mean it was always a bit off... I mean we were all so broken, and there was so many things to "heal" -- our whole lives gone over with a fine-tooth comb... And then all about the boundaries, the projections... All the ways that others reactions were proof of their own sickness, and how any blame was coming of course from them.
So sick. And we ate it.
So since a long while with the "good vibes only" movement or the even worse follow every feeling & sensitivity or number meaning something movement.... Always digging, always searching... Always improving to be the best you can possibly be - but watch your head can fit through the door on the way out.
It's been off.
Were we doing charity to help others? Were we building upon the past generations to create better solutions ? I mean maybe... but I would say more that we were tearing it down.
And so now.... Whilst the world goes up in flames... terrible wars and earthquakes... So where are the spiritual community?
Oh they are planning their next fabulous retreat in some expensive resort to make you into the best man or women ever so that you can birth the new earth through your own massive ego or magical yoni or something.
I mean we had good intentions... Didn't we?
I mean I felt like I did... I couldn't really function I was that lost. And so it definitely seemed to make things better, to give me a path to follow, to improve and influence the world for the better - except did it really though?
Or did it just make us into actual egomaniacs who can't function in society. Or who want to tear it down, believing that we are in one big conspiracy and that our own inner power will be the thing that saves us in the end... Never mind the friends commiting suicide, or the communities torn apart by whatever devestation just happened.... No just lean in to the discomfort and integrate it guys. And heres a new modality you can learn so that you can be even more useful in this world where our shadows are simply coming up to be integrated.
Delusional.
What mental gymnastics we were in to make all of this make sense, in a world that is literally heading for disaster.
I lay it all down to God and I pray for what comes next.
Lets hope the next chapter is a lot less cringy and comes with a healthy dose of humility & humanity...
Less finger pointing and more actually looking at the reality of who we are being to each other.
To our friends and our neighbors.
Are we acting like we are the king of the world? Or are we actually caring and helping and loving, especially to family and the community we have around us?
Let's hope that finally we can drain the bullshit from the swamp that is the new age.... and salvage this beautiful God given life that we have
whilst we can.
Let's pray for salvation.
